Description
This workshop for year 12 students and their teachers ONLY will use familiar new media to engage students with excitingly unfamiliar poetry. Through the twists and turns of listening to Queen Mary's distinctive digital poetry archive, the Archive of the Now, students will hear how poetry makes things new, and by hearing the variety of language use and ideas, they will grow in confidence in asking questions of literary texts, and learn new strategies for answering them.
Students will develop creatively critical approaches that can be applied to any poem, drawing on performance, translation, movement and technology. After working with the poems, students will have the opportunity to use their preparation and skills to participate in a mini-model undergraduate seminar with a Queen Mary faculty member. Someone from the Admissions team will also be on hand to answer questions about applying to university.
This will be an exciting and fun introduction to poetry, performance and digital technologies, that will enhance students’ understanding of the curriculum as well as providing opportunity for creative experimentation. Students do not need to be poets or English literature specialists but some interest in poetry would be beneficial.
There will be a workshop for Year 11 students on Thurs 9th Jan.
