Event description

Description

Join us in welcoming Claire as she launches her first pamphlet of experimental poetry, Brain Fuge, published by Verve Press!

Brain Fugue is a multi-layered pamphlet of poems that that speak to the complexity of the human mind as much as it does the complicated mind of this poet.

Inventive and playful: Claire pulls English poems from inside of a French mind, equally at home or estranged in England or France. She brings concepts, ideas and feeling to life with phrase after startling turn of phrase. She plays with form to create new and exciting ways of placing words on the page. But as with much play, things can quite easily tip into becoming a more serious kind of struggle. The struggle to feel settled – to understand – and finally, the struggle to find some kind of inner peace. Because lively energy and brilliance can also speak of the frantic attempt to find solutions that are never quite within reach.

Claire Trévien is an Anglo-Breton author. Born in Brittany in 1985, she resided in the UK for nearly two decades and performed her work internationally, from South Africa to New Orleans. She is the author of the pamphlet Low-Tide Lottery(Salt, 2011), and two collections The Shipwrecked House (Penned in the Margins, 2013), Astéronymes (Penned in the Margins, 2016), and Brain Fugue (Verve Poetry Press, 2019). She was a module leader on LCCM's Creative and Professional Writing degree. She has now moved back to her native Brittany.
