About this Event

MASTERCLASS WITH NOEL WILLIAMS 10AM - 11.30AM

If you're just finding your poetic feet, and not quite ready for one-to-one advice, join poet, lecturer, and editor, Noel Williams, who will give a masterful introductory talk on the world of publishing.

Topics Noel will touch on include:

What do you want to achieve?

Testing your work: workshopping, mentoring, maturing

Submitting to magazines, anthologies and competitions

Manuscript presentation

The nature of editors

Dealing with rejection

Networking and collaboration

Getting a collection together

Self-publishing

Editing your own magazine

There will be a couple of practical activities, and an opportunity for questions. Please be aware there may not be time for Noel to read or review your work.

About Noel

Noel is the author of the collections: Out of Breath and Point Me at the Stars. He’s published approaching 300 poems in over 100 magazines and anthologies, had some sort of success in 90 competitions, is founding co-editor of Antiphon (antiphon.org.uk), Associate Editor of Orbis (www.orbisjournal.com), reviews for magazines such as The North and Envoi, runs occasional writing workshops and has judged competitions. As a mentor he has helped eight poets to publication (though they may well have succeeded without him). He was the first Resident Artist at Sheffield’s Bank Street Arts Centre, with a very successful exhibition, Poetry off the Page, and several other poetry/art installations. He’s also Emeritus Professor at Sheffield Hallam University, with academic publications about writing and effective communication (which his family regard as somewhat ironic). Currently he’s working on a book to help developing poets, working title Climbing Parnassus.
