About this event
Walk some familiar paths and see your favourite Quantock views through new eyes, guided by Quantock poets Anne Lovejoy and Angela Wensley.
Anne and Angela are members of the Quantock Poetry Trail, a series of geo-located soundpools of poetry inspired by place and nature. Interact with the landscape in a creative way, listening to poems in the locations they were written using your smartphone and also hearing them read live by the poets.
Smartphones are not essential to enjoy this walk! But if you like using an app, you can download the free one from the Trail website - Get The Quantock Poetry Trail – Quantock Poetry Trail
Bring earphones and you’ll be able to listen to individual poems as you walk along.
See the website for the walk details and new self-printable walk leaflets for the entire trail: https://quantockpoetrytrail.uk/maps-2/get-the-quantock-poetry-trail/maps/
The walk will include readings from Anne Lovejoy's latest book inspired by the Quantock Hills, set against the backdrop of moorland views along the Bristol Channel from Minehead to Hinkley.
Meet at Staple Plain car park TA4 4EA at 10.30am.

The walk will take a leisurely 3 hours (distance is approx. 2 miles), with stops for readings and finishing after lunch (around 1.30pm). The route is mostly over easy ground with some steep slopes. We recommend wearing sturdy walking boots and dressing appropriately for the weather and to protect yourself against ticks.
Bring plenty of water and a picnic lunch.
The walk is free but booking is essential. Cash donations gratefully received on the day, to Words in Watchet.
Places are limited to 15 and we’re expecting it to book up quickly. Reserve your place soon!
Poemscapes in the Quantock Hills of Somerset
The Quantock Poetry Trail group is a group of 12 poets and writers, all of whom either live in or around the Quantocks, or who have an intimate connection to the Quantocks and surrounding areas. We have since July 2022 been wandering as lonely as a cloud, um, actually as together as a group of humans, o’er hill and dale, composing poetry to place, to the specific locations in and around the Quantocks which call to us as poets and writers.
The resulting works have been digitally embedded into the actual Quantock landscape, discoverable through your smartphone as audio. You can download the poetry experience onto your phone from this site, print out the relevant maps, and take to the hills. The voices of the poets will float in at the locations special to the poems, triggered by GPS.
