Event description

Description

Poetry Prescribed are collaborating with Young People Insight to offer an opportunity for 16-26 year olds to come together and discuss mental health and poetry.

Hosted by Miss Yankey this workshop promises to be a thought provoking session of reading, speaking, creating and sharing poetry on the subject of mental health. You do not need to be a poet to join us! We only ask that you come with an open mind, and be willing to explore your own creative potential in a nurturing and judgement free environment.

Young People Insight is a platform that empowers the voices of young people and encourages community engagement through writing, poetry and discussion events. They will host a Mental Health themed poetry night on May 29th, where workshop attendees are invited to share poetry created at Poetry Prescribed should they wish to.

Poetry has the ability to inspire thought, change and creativity; it can also promote healing and personal growth. Through poetry we can creatively connect to self, others, and our communities.

We look forward to prescribing you poetry!

Recent Reviews:

"A safe, warm space to reflect and create. Inspiration for me is not easily come by, but Poetry Prescribed offers so many tools and vital conversations, it's hard not to leave feeling energized and ready to write! Can't wait for the next one." - Becksy Becks

"Esi is passionate and professional in what she does. She nurtures and inspires, and inevitably the creative juices begin to flow. She is a natural teacher, in terms of presenting the group with poetry and helping us to think analytically and feel empathy for the writers. It is only natural that this process enabled me and others in the space to analyse and feel empathy with ourselves and each other (respect to the max to the group also). To some (including me) this will be a healing space, to others therapy, or simply an opportunity to feel free to create. I would so recommend Esi's work in both voluntary and statutory organisations.. Serious talent deh yah!" - Judy Worrell

Venue: CAS (Croydon Arts Store), Trinity Court, Whitgift Shopping Centre, Croydon CR01UQ

Croydon Arts Store is a temporary takeover of the old Grange furniture store in the Whitgift Centre by a consortium of local and neighbouring arts organisations, including Croydon Council, Turf Projects, Art Halo and Kingston School of Art.

The project will provide a collaborative and participatory visual arts and events programme with a focus on youth engagement and learning. It will act as an action research space to test the role of arts and culture in a shopping centre, and aim to inform how the visual arts can be integrated in to future developments
in Croydon.
