This event forms part of the ‘Made in the East End’ project, which celebrates the rich legacy of writing, activism, and community voice that took place within the walls of Oxford House and in the surrounding area.
Inspired by prolific periods of community writing and publishing in the 1970s/80s at Oxford House and beyond, this 'Made in the East End' series of writing workshops will platform East London's writers responding to this heritage.
Highwater Ell
Ell has been writing poetry since primary school, and been active in the poetry and open mic scene since 2019. Live performances have been all across London, from Wembley Box Park to Prince of Peckham, from All Stars Boxing Club in Harrow and The Curtain Club in Shoreditch to the Poetry Cafe in Central and many more!
Self publishing a poetry collection 'Poems from Escape-ish' (2020) was Ell's first significant foray into releasing writing for the page, then having a poem in a Summer Zine published by fellow creatives we.are.raya (2021).
Other achievements include: performing on BBC London's first ever poetry open mic for World Poetry Day (2024), a published poem in George The Poet's curated collection 'Part of a Story That Started Before Me' (2023), being displayed and performing for the 'Black Greenwich Pensioners' exhibition at the Old Royal Naval College (2020/2021), sing in the Ring Quarter Finalist (2025).
