London's award-winning LGBTQ+ literary salon returns. Hosted by Paul Burston with special guests Jason Ford, Golnoosh Nour and Jon Ransom.

About this event

Tonight author Paul Burston is joined by three writers from diverse backgrounds, working across various genres.

Jason Ford is a multidisciplinary artist who studied at New York’s School of Visual Arts. He has recently turned his attention back to writing after concentrating on photography, illustration and site specific works. His work has been exhibited around the world as well as hanging in private collections. He has been featured in such magazines as GT, Attitude, Time Out and The Guardian. His first book #Strangefruit was long listed for the prestigious Polari First Book Prize 2021.

Golnoosh Nour was born in Tehran and now lives in London. She teaches creative writing at the University of Reading and Westminster. Her debut short story collection The Ministry of Guidance was published in 2020 by Muswell Press, and was shortlisted for the Polari Prize. Her full length poetry collection Rocksong was published by Verve Poetry Press in October 2021. She recently co-edited issue 80 of Magma and the anthology Queer Life, Queer Love from Muswell Press.

Jon Ransom was a mentee on the 2019 Escalator Talent Development scheme at the National Centre for Writing. He was awarded a grant in 2021 by Arts Council England to develop his next novel. Ransom’s short stories have appeared in Foglifter Journal, SAND Journal, Five:2:One, and most recently in Queer Life, Queer Love. He lives in Cambridgeshire.

Organiser of Polari Live Online

Polari began in 2007 in a bar in Soho. Since 2009, we’ve been based at London’s Southbank Centre. We also tour regularly, funded by Arts Council England.

Writers and performers who’ve appeared at Polari include Amrou Al-Kadhi, Penny Arcade, Jake Arnott, Neil Bartlett, Dustin Lance Black, John Boyne, Russell T Davies, Maureen Duffy, Stella Duffy, Cerys Evans, Bernardine Evaristo, Patrick Gale, Garth Greenwell, Alexis Gregory, Saleem Haddad, Mari Hannah, Philip Hensher, Celia Imrie, Keith Jarrett, Jackie Kay, VG Lee, Kirsty Logan, David McAlmont, John McCullough, Andrew McMillan, Val McDermid, Karen McLeod, Paul McVeigh, Fiona Mozley, Must Okwonga, Diriye Osman, PJ Samuels, Ali Smith, Joelle Taylor, Tracey Thorn, Paula Varjack and Sarah Waters.

Polari was named Cultural Event of the Year in the Co-op Respect Loved By You Awards 2013.
