Event description

Description

A Walking tour of Croydon’s post war architecture and popular culture led by author John Grindrod.

Polaroids of Croydon is part of the public engagement programme for the new Fair Field public space, and will help inform development of the new designs.

The Fair Field is an ambitious £10m scheme to build a world-class public space in the heart of Croydon’s emerging cultural quarter. It will provide a stunning setting for the newly-refurbished Fairfield Halls, improve links with the rest of the town centre and create a destination space for communities and visitors alike.

As part of the design development for the Fair Field, we are running a series of workshops to explore the proposals and get your ideas for how the space can be used. Polaroids of Croydon is one of two ‘walking workshops’ led by artists, authors and experts on Croydon. They are free and open to all, however booking is essential. Each walk will visit notable buildings and places in Croydon’s town centre, and end at a public exhibition of the new design at the Fairfield Halls.

John Grindrod was born in Croydon and writes about architecture and cities. His books include Outskirts: Living Life on the Edge of the Green Belt and Concretopia: A Journey Around the Rebuilding of Postwar Britain.

This workshop will be run on Thursday 13th from 2.20pm to 4.30 pm and on Thursday 20th February from 7pm - 9pm. Details to register for this date can be found here
