Event Details

This one day course will outline the three of the main pieces of work you will need for a Museum Accreditation application

  • the Forward Plan
  • the Documentation Policy, Plan and Procedures
  • and the Care and Conservation Policy, Plan and Procedures.

What’s the point of these policies? What needs to go into the plans? What’s the difference between business plans and forward plans? How can we realistically plan for documentation and collections care and meet the needs of Accreditation? Do we need separate plans or should we have a Collections Management Framework?

Participants will learn about the requirements of Accreditation for Forward Plans, Documentation Plans and Care and Conservation Plans; will understand what makes a good policy and will know the procedures that need to be included in documentation procedures manuals and care and conservation documents.

Who is the course suitable for? Anyone (paid staff, volunteers or trustees) with the responsibility for Accreditation in their museum, or those considering Accreditation for the first time.

Course leaders: Kate Hebditch (Accreditation Adviser, SEMDP), Sarah Brown (Outreach Officer, Collections Trust) and Emily Nesbit-Hawkins (Preventative Conservation Officer, SEMDP).

Lunch will be provided.
