Policing from the air - Tales of a helicop by Gary Smart

Chief Inspector Gary Smart of South Wales Police will take us on the the road he followed having being rejected by the RAF, to serving as a young copper in Coventry City before transferring to the Valleys of South Wales. That journey took him from walking the beat to flying the beat as a Helicop, leading ultimately to being responsible for the Air Security for the President of the United States.

Having a keen interest in aviation throughout his career in the Police, with a total of 29 years service, working primarily in the uniformed operation of role, Gary has been lucky enough to work alongside or directly within the environment of Police Air Support and served as Air Security Planner for a number of major events including the Ryder Cup, Olympic Torch Relay, NATO Summit and most recently the UEFA Champion's League Final.
He later was employed as the Bronze Air Commander on these events coordinating the response of multi-agency assets and platforms to deliver the goal of keeping those events and the people of South Wales safe.

Gary's work in aviation has been recognised globally and he is a regular speaker at the World Police Aviation Conference hosted by police forces annually at locations across Europe and is attended by Police organisations from the United States, Canada along with many other nations.
