'Mechanicy shanty' are a well-known band performing shanties and sailor songs. Their repertoire also includes songs that blend Irish folk, bluegrass, and country music.
The group was founded in 1985 in Gdynia and quickly gained widespread recognition among audiences. We have won awards at most sailing song festivals in Poland (Shanties in Krakow, the Baltic Sea Song Festival in Gdynia, the Świnoujście Windmill, and many others).
They have performed in Finland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Germany, and the USA. We have also recorded for radio and television.
The phenomenon of the six-member band is the fact that, despite living in different cities, they meet regularly to play and sing together.
Their first album, "Mechanicy Shanty," and released it on Polskie Nagrania in 1989. According to our records, it was the best-selling cassette and album of sailing music (90,000 copies sold to date). In 1990, the band's lineup changed somewhat. This can be heard on another cassette, recorded in 1991, titled "Zapach ladu." In early 1995, the band returned almost entirely to the lineup from the first album. That same year, a bluegrass banjo was added. Instrumental changes can be heard on the live album "Live'97." Two years later, we released a studio album, "W granic folku," where, in addition to sailing songs, you can hear traces of our non-nautical musical fascinations.
We're preparing to record another album, some of which has already been played live.
"Shanty Mechanics" features hits like Dziki włóczęga, Żegluj, Maui, Green Horn, Irlandzki wędrowiec, Denis Land, Hiszpanka z Callao, Herzogin Cecille, Polka, Eliza Lee, Sześć błota stóp....
