Description

Have you ever wondered how to turn your degree into a career in politics, working either in a government department or in an organisation which influences and observes government activity? POLIS has some wonderful alumni working in a variety of sectors and we have invited some of those alumni back to the University of Leeds to discuss how they used their degree from POLIS to build a career in the offices of govenment and associated organisations.

Confirmed speakers are:

Florence Henry - National Management Trainee, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Florence is currently working on the National Graduate Development Programme run by the Local Government Association. As part of this scheme, Florence will untake four six-month placements in different local government departments. Florence has worked in the Communications department before moving onto the Delivery Unit, focusing on sixth-form education.

Michelle Man - Senior Research Officer, The Electoral Commission. Michelle manages and delivers quantitative and qualitative research projects, and leading evaluation projects such as the evaluation of the Cabinet Office canvass pilot projects. she also manages projects such as a trial to investigate whether behavioural insights can be used to improve services and reduce costs; collaborative work with local authorities, government (Cabinet Office, ONS, NRS, Boundary Commission) and academic institutions. Prior to working for the Electoral Commission, Michelle worked for Transparency International, an organisation which reports on global corruption.

Noita Sadler - Head of External Affairs, Department of Health. Noita is responsible for the new External Affairs function at DH, building relationships with DH stakeholders, specifically comms and public affairs leads. Prior to working for the Department of Health, Noita worked as Public Affairs Manager for the London School of Economics.
