Description

The Graduate School of Education is holding a public debate on education in the run up to the UK General Election on 8 June 2017. Candidates for the Bristol West seat have been invited for questioning on a broad range of topics. The debate will be open to staff, students, and members of the general public to question the attending MP’s various stances on their policies on education.

Topics to be discussed:

  • What do the panel think will be the long term impact on the curriculum of changes to SATS and GCSEs?

  • What is the panel’s view on priorities for addressing the teacher shortage?

  • What do the panel think has been the effect of school league tables and inspections for driving up standards?

  • What do the panel think will be the likely impact of grammar schools on equity?

  • What do the panel believe to have been the implications for the most disadvantaged groups in society of changes to the way HE is funded?

Speakers:

  • Thangham Debbonaire (Labour)

  • Molly Scott Cato (Green)

  • TBC (Conservative)

  • Stephen Williams (Liberal Democrats)

Chair - Professor Keri Facer (Interim Head of School, Graduate School of Education)
