Join the Ranger Service for a conservation volunteering session in Polkemmet Country Park. For this session, we will be managing our dead hedge near the bridge at The Horn, by weaving the outer edges and cutting new vegetation to top up the hedge. Dead hedges provide habitat and shelter for a variety of animals, and food for insects. Maintenance of dead hedges is ongoing as the vegetation mulches down, and these hedges also provide a place for new cuttings to go as part of vegetation management within Polkemmet. While we're there, we'll also be brushing vegetation off the bridge.
All tools and a full tool safety talk will be provided by the Ranger. If you have some, please bring along a pair of gloves with you, and wear appopriate clothing for the weather. Sturdy footwear is advised. Please bring along any snacks and drinks you require. No prior experience is necessary to take part in the sessions, new volunteers are always welcome!
The session will run for two hours. The meeting place is outside the Ranger Office, which is located to the left of the entrance archway into the Visitor Centre courtyard. It will be a (roughly) 5 minute walk to the work area, which is located next to the bridge at The Horn.
