Event description

Description

The Flower-Insect Timed Count (FIT count) is a survey designed to collect data on the changes in numbers of flower visitng insects across the UK. It is one element of a wider set of studies for the National Pollinator Monitoring Scheme (PoMS), co-ordinated by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, in partnership with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, Butterfly Conservation, University of Reading and many more.

The FIT count is a perfect introduction to pollinators for people with NO previous experience of identifying them & can be carried out at any time between the beginning of March and the end of October, wherever a suitable target flower can be found, and when the weather is dry and warm.

As with all citizen science projects, if the protocol is clearly understood and closely followed, the more useful the generated data is to scientists. Through this training day we are hoping to inspire you to put Oxfordshire's pollinators on the map of this national study and to learn more about these amazing insects.

Trainers will be Martin Harvey and Roselle Chapman.

Please bring your own lunch. Tea, coffee & biscuits will be available.

If you're unable to pay the full price of the training - please let us know and we'll see if we can help.
