Event description

Description

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) impacts about 10% of women. Some women go undiagnosed, and don't realise that some of their problems - such as weight gain, depression, and fertility problems - are caused by PCOS. The field of medicine struggles to deal effectively with the physiological aspects of PCOS, but the field of psychology is making a contribution. For example, a recent pilot study by John Barry and colleagues found that a relaxation programme for women with PCOS can not only improve mood, but can also make small improvements in some of the biochemical inbalances in PCOS.

In this talk, chartered psychologist John Barry describes the findings of his research work - which started in 2004 - on the various psychological aspects of PCOS, from the womb to adulthood.
