Following the success of our inaugural session in November 2017, Polyphony Down the Pub Brighton is back!

Attendance is strictly by registration via Eventbrite so don't delay - sign up now!

***Update 12/01/18: all spaces now taken and the waiting list is open. Note that the waiting list applies to all ticket types and appears next to whichever section is first to become fully booked; you must therefore specify your voice (or non-singing space) after your surname when joining it. If you don't register on the waiting list in this way, we won't be able to offer you a place.***

FAQs

What is Polyphony Down the Pub?

PDtP is a come and sing event in a pub. No rehearsing, no performing, just an enjoyable evening of amateur music-making and socialising. (See here for more details: https://polyphonydownthepub.com/faqs/

Do I need to be able to read music to take part?

You do need to be a confident sight singer to get the most out of the evening. However, anyone who just wants to come along to listen and socialise is also very welcome to book one of the non-singing spaces.

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

Over 18s only, please. Not because it's rude (although to be fair some of our madrigals can be a bit racy) but because it's in a pub.

I'm suspicious of events that are free - what's the catch?

There's no catch - it really is about the music! However, make sure you bring your drinking money.

Do you provide print-outs of the sheet music?

No, only the links to the sheet music, which will be e-mailed to you 48 hours before the event; you need to print out the pages yourself or better yet, save them to a tablet and do the planet a favour.

My voice section appears to be sold out; why is that and can I just book in under another section?

Some voices appear to be extremely attracted to the idea of drinking while singing (yes, altos, we are indeed looking at you), which means that they get booked up first. However, it's really important that we keep the right balance of voices on the night so please do not book another voice part or a non-singing space if your voice section is not available.

Instead, join the waiting list as we'll almost certainly find you a space nearer the time.

***Note that the waiting list applies to all ticket types and appears next to whichever section is first to become fully booked; you must therefore specify your voice (or non-singing space) after your surname when joining it. Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

The Nightingale Room at the Grand Central is on the first floor with no lift and so regrettably the event is not suitable for people who are unable to use stairs. Please also note that the lighting in the venue is quite dim so please bring a pen-torch if you are concerned.

Polyphony Down the Pub

Polyphony Down the Pub & Counterpint are music-making evenings for anyone who wants to sing the great choral pieces of the High Renaissance – plus a few Bach chorales thrown in for good measure – in the informal and relaxed atmosphere of a pub.

Download the sheet music for each session in advance and then just turn up on the night and sing – simple as that.
