London’s Favourite Night of Renaissance Motets & Booze!™ is getting your Christmas started early with a fine selction of seasonal motets & chorales!
As it's a special occasion, we'll be collecting money on the night in aid of the Royal Voluntary Service; suggested minimum donation to take part is £5 but please give as much as you can for this worthy cause.
The first booking period for our Christmas special goes live at 5pm on Friday November 25th; more spaces will then be released the next day (Saturday November 26th) at 9am, so everyone should be in with a chance of getting a space.
NB Lambeth North tube station is currently closed - use Waterloo instead - and please read the FAQs before registering.
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
Over 18s only, please. Not because it's rude (although to be fair some of our madrigals can be a bit racy) but because it's in a pub.
Do I need to be able to read music to take part?
You do need to be a reasonably confident sight singer to get the most out of the evening. However, anyone who just wants to come along to listen and socialise is also very welcome to book one of the non-singing spaces.
Do you provide print-outs of the sheet music?
No, only the links to the sheet music, which will be e-mailed to you 2 or 3 days before the event; you need to print out the pages yourself or better yet, save them to a tablet and do the planet a favour.
My voice section appears to be sold out; why is that and can I just book in under another section?
Some voices appear to be extremely attracted to the idea of drinking while singing (yes, altos, we are indeed looking at you), which means that they get booked up first. However, it's really important that we keep the right balance of voices on the night so please do not book another voice part or a non-singing space if your voice section is not available.
Instead, join the waiting list (usually on the Alto or Bass booking line) as we'll almost certainly find you a space nearer the time.
Please specify your voice (or non-singing space) after your surname when joining the waiting list.
Is the venue wheelchair accessible?
The private room at the Horse and Stables is on the first floor with no lift and so regrettably the event is not suitable for people who are unable to use stairs. Plesae also note that the lighting in the venue is quite dim so please bring a pen-torch if you are concerned.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Where can I find out more?

When & Where
Polyphony Down the Pub
Polyphony Down the Pub & Counterpint are music-making evenings for anyone who wants to sing the great choral pieces of the High Renaissance – plus a few Bach chorales thrown in for good measure – in the informal and relaxed atmosphere of a pub.
Download the sheet music for each session in advance and then just turn up on the night and sing – simple as that.
