About this Event

The Poole Harbour Osprey Translocation Project is a 5-year reintroduction project running between 2017 and 2021.

Led by Birds of Poole Harbour partnered with the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation and Wildlife Windows, the Project aims to restore Ospreys as a breeding bird to the South Coast through releasing Scottish juveniles in Poole.

In 2019, the first signs of success were seen when a male Osprey that was released in 2017, LS7, returned to Poole Harbour following his migration. Fortunately, a mature female from Rutland, CJ7, has been spending her summers in Poole since 2017, seemingly interested by the juveniles being released.

On his return, the pair immediately bonded and spent the rest of the summer nest-building together. We hope for their return in 2020, with the potential of having the first nesting Ospreys in Dorset for almost two centuries.

Hear about the process, successes and future of this project from one of the founders of Birds of Poole Harbour, Paul Morton.

Free talk, suitable for all ages.
