Event description

Description

What if Bearwood had a workspace where you could sign up to the creche when needed and get another few hours work done? A professional workspace and a nurturing, happy creche. Come to the pop-up to try it, and to help us design it.

The workspace will temporarily be in the Chance Room at Lightwoods House looking out onto the park with plenty of natural light and some creature comforts too (pastries for breakfast, anyone?). We'll provide a welcoming and professional place with desk space, WiFi, power for your laptop / phone and refreshments. You'll be able to work quietly or connect with others. Cost information is below.

The on-site childcare will operate like a crèche facility, offering free-flow activities for children and include some structured sessions led by experienced artists and early years practitioners.

We invite you to come and work 10am until 1pm, and then join us to share lunch together until 2pm with your children, to imagine what a permanent space might look and feel like in Bearwood and how else it could be developed as a venue and collaborative space, by and for Bearwood communities.

COST

This opportunity is offered on a pay what you can on entry (suggested donation of £15 per 3 hour session). This will go towards the cost of the sessions, however cost should not prohibit anyone from being able to participate. Donations will be taken in cash on the day. However booking is essential. We ask that if you need to cancel, you do so at least one week before your booking so that we can offer your space to someone else.

IMPORTANT INFO

This event is a pop up co-working and creche facility at Lightwoods House for local freelancers, business owners, remote workers and children aged 9 months + and their parent(s) / carers.

It is a condition of Ofsted that parents / carers stay on site at all times and this creche opportunity combines a co-working / meeting space at Lightwoods House including broadband. The creche and workspace will be in separate rooms. We will be creating a professional environment in one room and a top-notch creche in the other.

Childcare will be provided by qualified childcare professionals and play workers all with enhanced DBS clearance and with experience in the care of children and babies.

Places are strictly limited. If you are unable to commit to your booking please email: amy.martin@impacthub.net

Snacks, toys and juice / water will be provided for children and snacks, teas & coffees for the adults!

FAQs

What are my transport / parking options for getting to and from the event?
Many buses stop near Lightwoods House, on Bearwood Road and the Hagley Road (Kings Head stops). There is a small free car park at Lightwoods House or a paid car park (low cost) where Adkins Lane joins Bearwood Road. There is local on-street parking, although parking spots do tend to get taken up quite quickly.

What do I need to bring?
You will need to bring a spare pair of clothing and socks; nappies and wipes; bottle/beaker of water and or milk; hat and sunscreen on sunny days; warm clothing on chilly days; your child’s favourite snacks (we provide toast, veg and fruit).

Can I bring my buggy?
Yes absolutely. You will be able to bring in a buggy or a stroller which you can leave in the bike/buggy racks outside. Please note we do not provide any locks (you are welcome to bring your own) and you will be leaving this item at your own risk. We will not be responsible for theft or any damage.

What is the settling in process like?
We understand that the settling in process is different for every child and parent/carer; it can also be a difficult one. Before you attend your first session we will send you a Happiness & Wellbeing form, so that we can get to know more about your child ahead of session.

How will the creche support my child if they have a disability?
Impact Hub Birmingham are an associate member of the Children’s Quarter - an alliance of Birmingham based groups who are committed to delivering community services for children and young people at risk of social exclusion due to disability or any additional need; and supporting their families. We are bendy, stretchy and open to inclusive practice... so talk to us!

What can I expect a typical day at the crèche to look like?
Our pop-up on-site crèche facility offers free-flow creative play activities for children and includes some structured sessions led by experienced artists and early years practitioners. We offer safe, stimulating, creative sessions to babies (6 months and up), toddlers and preschoolers.

What if I want to see my child during the day?
You are welcome to pop your head in the window or come to collect your child for breastfeeding and if your child is very distressed or presenting signs of illness we will come and get you, otherwise once you and your child have settled we do not encourage parents to drop-in and out of the crèche as this can unsettle the children.

What if my child is ill?
Should your child have an infectious disease, such as sickness and diarrhea, they will not be able to attend a session until they have been clear for 48 hrs. We will not be able to provide a refund for any session that your child misses due to illness.

Can I use childcare vouchers?
We regret that childcare vouchers and / or free childcare places are not available at this time.

Attendance
If your child is absent for a session we do ask if you can drop us an e-mail as soon as you can so that we can prepare staff ratios appropriately.

Who will be looking after my child?
The crèche staff comprises of a mixture of experienced early years practitioners, playworkers and artists. All staff will have an Enhanced DBS check and experience working with young children. We believe that it is important for children to be introduced to practitioners from a wide range of backgrounds to reflect the society they are growing up in.
