Welcome to the inaugural RBL ‘Poppy Posse’ cycling ride. You are invited to join the RBL London staff Area Team for a friendly cycle ride as part of an alternative up-beat Remembrance 'Armed Forces Day' activity. An eleven mile easy paced ride as a human poppy chain, passing by war memorials in central London. Bring your own picnic for the lunch stop off, in a public open green space.
Form up 10.30am at RBL HQ, London Pop In Centre, Haig House, SE1 1AA. (nearest tube Borough or London Bridge).
At registration you will be able to adorn your bicycle with RBL branded flags and poppies; study and discuss map; pick up memorial listing and enjoy a free cuppa and biscuits before setting off at 11.30am.
Awards for 'Best Poppy Red Outfit' and 'Best Decorated Bicycle'.
Ring out your bell, toot your horn at every memorial passed in tribute to the fallen and to the future of the living.
DRESS CODE: Any style, period, costume, as long as it is RED.
Participants will be expected to sign this waiver prior to taking part. This form must be completed by a person aged 18 years or over. Evidence of age may be requested. Participants under the age of 18 years will be allowed to participate in the event with the consent of their parent or legal guardian who must sign the Event Registration form on behalf of the underage rider. Signing is also an acceptance for the actions and consequences of the underage rider. Under 16s must be accompanied at all times by an adult, responsible for them.
Map route will be made public to download to GPS devices the Friday before ride out, via a link to https://www.strava.com/ . Printed maps will be handed out on the day with a list of memorials on route.
Bring with you:
A picnic, water.
Front and rear lights, (in case it's dark on the ride, when you decide to head home)
You need to be able to repair your own puncture;
basic bike tool & puncture repair kit, or spare inner tube or instant spray repair aerosol.
Make sure your bike is roadworthy, in particular check:
Brakes work properly
Tyres are sufficiently inflated
Chain runs freely and the gear changes are smooth
No obvious loose connections (check especially your handlebars, saddle, cranks, pedals)
Wheels run true (don't wobble from side to side when moving)
This event is not a fund raiser; if you wish to make a donation, you may do so in the collection tin at the Pop In Centre, but this is NOT obligatory.
