Frequently asked questions

What is the Portishead Writers' Group?

The Portishead Writers' Group is a monthly gathering for writers of all experience levels to share their work, exchange ideas, and improve their craft in a friendly and supportive setting.

Do I need to be an experienced writer to join?

Not at all! Writers of all levels, from beginners to seasoned authors, are welcome.

What happens at the meetings?

Each meeting typically includes time for sharing your work (if you’d like), group discussions on writing issues or progress so far, and opportunities to give and receive constructive feedback.

Do I have to share my writing?

Sharing your writing is entirely optional. You’re welcome to participate in discussions and activities without sharing if you prefer.

Do I need to prepare anything in advance?

There’s no need to prepare anything unless you’d like to share a piece of your writing. If so, bringing a printed or digital copy can be helpful for others to follow along.

Is there a membership fee or cost to join?

No, the group is free to attend. Come and eat our biscuits!

How long do the meetimgs last?

Meetings usually run for two hours.

Is there an opportunity for socialising outside of writing?

Our focus is primarily on writing, but the meetings are a great way to connect with like-minded people, and informal chats often happen during and after the sessions. Some writers like to meet up outside of the monthly meetings, and we also have an online forum where you can discuss matters.

Do I need to RSVP, or can I just show up?

It’s most helpful if you RSVP so we can plan accordingly, but you’re welcome to drop in.
