For those who have not discovered this wondrous Portland Gallery at Worksop, here is a chance to become acquainted. Housed in the beautiful new building of some distinction is a distillation of the sumptuous collections of the Dukes of Portland.
On view in the first gallery are portraits by Van Dyck accompanying magnificent 17th and 18th century silver. In the next room is the pearl worn by Charles I at his execution, the Portland tiara by Cartier, miniatures by Hilliard and Smart and portraits by de Laszlo as well as 17th century atlases.
A curator will be on hand to give an introductory talk on the collection. Adjacent is the Harley Gallery itself, the Farm Shop, the Harley Café and a further café in the garden centre. Lunch at your own convenience. Own transport to Worksop. Sat Nav S80 3L.
This event has been organised by the West Yorkshire Volunteer Fundraising Committee to help raise money for the Art Fund.
