Event description

Description

Join us for a day of editing Wikipedia, using the library's collection of press cuttings to write articles about the people and places of Portobello!

No previous Wikipedia experience is required and full training will be provided on the day. By the end of the session, all attendees will have written a complete Wikipedia article, similar to this one on Portobello Library.

This event is being run in partnership between the Portobello Heritage Trust and Portobello Library.

Location: Portobello Library, 14 Rosefield Avenue, Portobello, EH15 1AU

Number of places: 20

Itinerary:

10:00 - 10:30: Arrival, tea / coffee (provided)

10:30 - 11:30: Introduction to Wikipedia and training

11:30 - 16:00: Wikipedia editing (lunch not provided but you are welcome to bring your own)

Three things you need to do to prepare for the event:

  1. Sign up for a Wikipedia account. Please do this before you arrive for the session.

  2. Become a member of City of Edinburgh Council libraries (you can join on the day). If you are not a member you will not be able to access the wifi.

  3. Bring your own laptop. There are a small number of laptops at the library but please let us know in advance if you require one. Editing Wikipedia on a mobile phone or tablet is doable but challenging - we would strongly advise using a laptop instead!
