Portrait of an Oak Tree
Meet the artists:
Epha J. Roe is a research-based photographic artist whose vibrant practice centers on human relationships with the natural world, particularly through the lens of plant intelligence and the cultural histories of trees. They work primarily with photography to explore how humans engage with the natural world, with a strong emphasis on the cultural and biological narratives of specific plants—most notably, the English oak tree. Their practice delves into plant intelligence and queer ecology, combining photographic theory, critical plant studies, and queer theory into a cohesive, conceptually rich approach.
Clare Hewitt's exhibition “Everything in the Forest is the Forest” is an evocative exploration of human connection to nature, particularly focusing on trees and the environment. The title itself suggests an intricate, intertwined relationship where everything in a forest—each leaf, root, or branch—is inherently part of the larger whole. Her exhibition invites the viewer to consider the forest as a living, breathing entity, and how it connects to human experience, memory, and history.
Join us for a thought provoking evening exploring the hidden world of oak trees, sustainable photography and the forest as a place of diversity, difference and hybrid lives.
The event will begin at 6pm prompt for an in-conversation session. A brief intermission will be followed by an overview of Epha's current exhibition at RidgeBank and a closing Q&A session. Suggested donation £5
