Portrait Painting in Oils

You will be working with Kathy to create a beautiful portrait using oil painting with a direct technique.

Your instructor will take you through the creation of a portrait in oil paint in a direct 'alla prima' style. You will learn through exercises and examples and come away with a painted portrait of your own based on the provided example- or your own.

Over the course of the 4 hours you will be walked through the process of using oil paints, you will learn how to block in a head in a way that preserves proportion and likeness and be shown ways to mix and apply colours for portrait painting.

About Your Instructor:

Katherine Dereli is an artist working around Lancashire and Liverpool. She's been running classes in Liverpool teaching representational painting and drawing for a more than a decade. She has appeared on Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year in 2022. She frequently exhibits around the Liverpool and West Lancashire areas.

Materials provided:

Oil paint - basic selection, solvent, palette paper,

kitchen roll, paper + pencils for exercises.

Attendees should bring along(or purchase from the venue on the day):

brushes, small canvas panel or canvas suggested no bigger than 16 inch on a side.
