Event description

Description

Develop your portrait painting skills with reference to Richard Kitson's wife and principal model Joanne at his studio in Barnsley town centre. Participants will be given taken through a step by step process to build up their portraits from initial drawing to developing skin tones, creating a likeness and refining their portraits to completion. The workshop will focus on typical areas people find tricky such as the nose, mouth, shadows and hair and how to paint these areas as integral parts of the overal face.

Richard's studio is a light, intimate and creative environment which gives participants an opportunity to learn as part of a small group of four. This will allow for more 1-1 support and advice with Richard over the two days.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own oil painting materials and a suitable support measuring no less than 12x10 inches. Easels will be provided. Richard uses the following oil colours: Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Red, Cadmium Yellow Pale, Raw Umber, Yellow Ochre and Titanium White. Participants can use these colours or their favoured equivalents including water soluable oil paints.

Particpants are encouraged to bring a packed lunch on both days but drinks, biscuits and buns will be provided throughout the weekend.
