A day spent with professional photographer Wendy Carrig


  • PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY : WORKING WITH DAYLIGHT : What to expect
  • A short talk on Wendy’s career to date, with particular reference to portrait photography and some of the ways in which she approaches portraiture in her commissioned work and personal projects.
  • A demonstration of portrait photography using natural daylight as the only light source and students as the subject – Wendy will also create individual portraits of all students.
  • You will be able to learn tips and techniques from Wendy’s unique approach to her craft.
  • You will have the opportunity to put your new knowledge into practice and create new photographic portraits.
  • Wendy will show you how the portraits you have created can be enhanced in post-production with techniques using ©CaptureOne software.
  • Day guest and residential tickets available

ITINERARY

  • 10 - 10.30 Introduction
  • 10.30 - 12 Demonstration on portrait photography using ambient light with Q&A
  • 12 - 1pm Portrait photography by students
  • 1 - 1.30pm Lunch break
  • 1.30 - 2.30pm More portrait photography by students
  • 2.30 - 2.45 Tea break
  • 2.45 - 4pm Post production with Q&A

WHAT TO BRING?

  • CAMERA – this can be anything from a DSLR to a camera phone
  • CABLES – to connect camera to a laptop
  • TRIPOD / SELFIE-STICK – optional, but useful for self portraits
  • MEMORY STICK – optional, but useful
  • LAPTOP – optional, but useful
  • CLOTHING ITEM(S) – optional. Each student will have the opportunity to be photographed by Wendy Carrig, and bringing along a small selection of items such as a favourite hat, jumper, uniform etc. could be useful in the creative process.

WENDY CARRIG – BIOGRAPHY

Wendy Carrig is an established freelance photographer; a long standing member of the Association of Photographers; co-founder and contributing editor of Perfect Bound magazine; and has recently been nominated as one of the Royal Photographic Society’s #HundredHeroines.

Known for her fashion and beauty photography, Wendy is also a successful portrait photographer. Her work has been selected for both catalogue cover and poster campaign for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery, London; and she has won the AOP best in category award for portraiture at the Association of Photographers Awards. Recent sittings include Tessa Sanderson CBE, Dr.Rosena Allin-Khan MP, the girl band Bananarama and Ayda Field Williams. Her current exhibitions include 209WOMEN at the Houses of Parliament, and COMMON PEOPLE at the Greenham Common Control Tower.
