Event description

Description

You are invited to join us on Monday 23rd October 18.00 - 20.00 for the Portrait Youth Exhibition Reception. To celebrate the launch of the project, meet the team and the participants.

The Portrait Youth project explores the individual and civic identities of Greater Manchester’s young people through clothes, styling and photography. The team hosted two interactive workshops in 2017, working with 14 members of the Manchester Youth Council. Participants were asked to style themselves using their own clothing or artefacts in a way that represented their identity and to reflect upon, and articulate, their current, past and future selves. Responses to the workshop and accompanying interviews confirmed the powerful role that dressing can play in enabling exploration, articulation and display of identity and how clothing can be used as a catalyst for self-awareness and personal expression.

Photographs from the project will be on display at Central Library from 09 October - 04 November during the Design Manchester festival in The Reading Room, Manchester Central Library.

Free Entry – Please check library opening hours.

We look forward to seeing you on Monday 23rd October. Please RSVP.
