Event description
Explore drawing and monoprinting techniques to develop portraits on this one day workshop.

About this Event

You will start with portrait drawing working from a photograph, using charcoal and ink. The aim is to build your skills and confidence in drawing techniques.

You will then experiment with monoprint, using a technique in which the inked up plate is drawn into and partially wiped away, creating light and dark areas (chiaroscuro) before making prints of your portraits.

The workshop will be taught in a step by step way with tutor advice and guidance.

What experience do I need?

This is a mixed ability workshop for complete beginners and those with some previous drawing and printmaking experience.

Those who have some previous skills may benefit from a fresh approach to working, and will learn how to develop portraiture in printmaking.

What will I make?

You will come away from the workshop with a small series of portraits using drawing and monoprinting techniques on cartridge paper.

Who is my tutor?

Chris Eastham is an Artist and Teacher based in Leeds. She has a degree in Fine Art and has taught art and design extensively throughout her career, mainly in schools up to A level and also with some adult education classes. Since joining Leeds Print Workshop two years ago, Chris has been developing her decorative portraits and has regularly exhibited and sold her monoprints. She is an accomplished painter who was recently a successful contestant on a popular portraiture competition to be screened on television in the spring of 2020.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment will be provided including cartridge paper, a range of drawing materials, inks etc. You are encouraged to bring along some of your own materials to try if you have them and also bring a few photographs to work from.

If I can't attend can I get a refund?

We will issue a refund if you cancel no less than 14 days before the start of the course, after which no refunds will be issued. Please note Eventbrite’s booking fee is non-refundable.

By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here.

What if the course is cancelled?

We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible but, due to the nature of the building, Leeds Print Workshop is not wheelchair accessible. There is a step up into the building and four steps down to the toilets, and no accessible toilet facilities. Should you have any questions, or wish to discuss accessibility before booking, please don't hesitate to email us at hello@leedsprintworkshop.org

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
