Portsea Heritage Walk
Sat 22 April 2017, 10:00 – 12:30 BST
Since 2013 Dr Ann Coats, University lecturer in Heritage Property, has run the Portsea Heritage Project to engage students in the heritage of Portsea residents. A number of ideas have emerged, including a trail.
This walk will gather ideas and opinions from walkers about what heritage places should be included, what might be proposed to improve green spaces, and how to link these places by walking. The route will explore a trail from The Hard to Victoria Park connecting heritage and green places. It will explore questions based on the Placecheck Model including, ‘What do you like?’, ‘What do you dislike?’ and ‘What do we need to improve?’
- Wear weatherproof clothes and sturdy shoes
- Be aware of uneven pavements and some risk from moving buses, construction traffic, especially on The Hard
- Walk in small groups and consider other pedestrians
Date: Saturday 22 April 2017
Time: 10.00 am starting, the walk will last 2-2½ hrs with refreshments halfway at St George’s Church.
Venue: From Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Gate on The Hard
It is free and open to all. It is supported by Friends of the Earth as part of their Walking in Portsmouth Campaign and Portsea Action Group.
