Description

Symposium #1: Mental Health & Spirituality - Value, Place and Purpose
"an occasion at which people who have great knowledge of a particular subject meet in order to discuss a matter of interest"

This is the first session of a series of events aimed at practitioners and professionals working in the area of mental health. It would be suitable for pastoral workers, teachers and youthworkers as well as those based in community services. The aim is to explore mental health through different lenses in order that practitioners can discuss and reflect on their own practice and share ideas together.

- What do we understand spirituality to be and how might we be encountering that in our workplace or setting?
- What are the links between mental health and spirituality?
- How does the concept of Value, Place & Purpose complement or clash with Maslow's hierarchy of needs?
- How can an understanding of spirituality help us in our support and treatment of people with poor mental health?

These are some of the themes we will be exploring during the symposium, which is open to people of all faiths and none. Through informal discussion and reflection, we hope to learn and share good practice together, which will help us in our workplace and practice.

Bring your lunch. Refreshments will be provided.

Parking locally is restricted to one hour as there is a residents scheme in place. However there are metered parking bays available, or guests can use Gunwharf Quays or Southsea Esplanade (near the Hover port) carparks, both of which are 10mins walk on foot.
