Are problem behaviours interfering with teaching time and getting in the way of pupil engagement and motivation?

If so, this workshop is for you! Implementing Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (PBIS) will help you develop preventive and responsive strategies for addressing challenging behaviours in the classroom. When implemented effectively, PBIS can decrease disruptions, increase instructional time, and improve academic and social outcomes.

This workshop will give you PRACTICAL, individualized and positive interventions that you can start using in your classroom immediately. You will learn tips on how to build positive relationships with even the most challenging pupils and create a more collaborative environment in your classroom.

Learning Objectives:

Day 1 (passed) Universal Support

  • To identify the essential features of positive behaviour support in the classroom
  • To define expected classroom behaviours and teach these explicitly
  • To create a positive classroom environment which encourages and acknowledges expected behaviours

Day 2 (Level 2) Additional Support

  • To identify pupils who require targeted interventions
  • To clearly define problem behaviour and measure it objectively
  • To identify evidence-based strategies to effectively prevent and respond to problem behaviour
  • To identify a support team and resources within your school

Day 3 (Level 3) Intensive Support

  • To identify students who require individualized and intensive support
  • To define the functions of behavior
  • To identify and implement function based support strategies
  • To define the essential components of a Behaviour Support Plan
  • To identify wrap-around support for pupils needing intensive support

Delivered by:

Erin Moorad is a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and National Board Certified Special Education Teacher. She holds a Masters in Special Education and Applied Behaviour Analysis graduate certificate from Florida Institute of Technology. She has worked in and out of the classroom with children with developmental disabilities, ASD and significant cognitive and/or behavioural needs for over 20 years. Erin is especially passionate about helping children and young adults who struggle with social communication, forming meaningful relationships with peers and navigating the complex social world. She is a certified PEERS® provider and has received training in Social Thinking with Michele Garcia Winner.

Erin has extensive experience conducting Functional Behaviour Assessments and creating Behaviour Support Plans for children who experience behaviour related issues that impact their quality of life or hinder their educational progress.

Prior to moving to Edinburgh with her family in 2013, Erin worked as an Autism Specialist in Chapel Hill, North Carolina where she provided training using best practices to classroom teachers and support staff with a focus on preschool and early primary years. She is trained in structured teaching and using visual supports to increase learner independence. She developed and delivered parent workshops to promote involvement and expand knowledge and is committed to team-based approaches that maximize outcomes for each learner.
