Description

On the back of a successful training career at Animas Centre for Coaching and the University of East London, your trainer Yannick Jacob (MSc Applied Positive Psychology, MA Existential Coaching, FMR Programme Leader MSc Coaching Psychology at the University of East London and having taught on their MSc Applied Positive Psychology and Coaching Psychology for years) invites you to this unique training weekend introducing the science of Positive Psychology to practicing coaches who aspire to apply its findings in their practice and life.

The context:

When we explore a little further what our clients bring into the coaching room, we tend to find that every goal and aspiration tends to be related to some form of feeling good or better. The science of positive psychology will help you understand the building blocks of happienss, human potential, motivation, resilience and what it takes to flourish.

Since the emergence of positive psychology as a field of scientific study in 1999 we have learned a lot about human strengths, positive emotions and generally what’s right with people. Rather than focusing on fixing people’s problems and getting them back to “normal”, positive psychologists have studied people at their best, explored human potential and tried to establish what happiness and wellbeing consist of.

While many of the field’s topics may not have reinvented the wheel, we were finally able to test and expand them through empirical methods of study, which have led to numerous exciting applications at individual and group level. Researchers in the field have been creating evidence-based interventions and a substantial amount of the research in coaching psychology has been generated by positive psychologists.

Many coaches have benefited greatly from understanding more about the psychology of flourishing and human potential and the vast majority of practitioners now integrate aspects of positive psychology into their work with clients.

The course:

This course will help participants understand more about what drives people and what constitutes the pillars of psychological wellbeing. Coaches will develop a language to celebrate their clients’ strengths and become clearer about the fuzzy thing that everybody seems to chase their whole life: Happiness.

Over the two days of this course we will lay foundations from which to explore the field of positive psychology in relation to coaching practice and give you an opportunity to integrate it into your existing practice.

Spending the weekend together with a small group of coaches and your trainer Yannick Jacob and by means of presentations, group discussions, coaching demonstrations and breakout coaching sessions the course will address the following learning outcomes:

  • Basic knowledge about the science of positive psychology, its short history and an awareness of the range of topics studied by positive psychologists.
  • Understand what positive psychology is, the science and research behind it and how it can be used to inform coaching practice and increase coaching success.
  • Learn effective tools, techniques and interventions derived from positive psychology research and the importance of client-activity fit.
  • Awareness of different conceptualisations of happiness and wellbeing as a common goal for coaching clients.
  • Basic knowledge of character strengths and how this can be used in coaching sessions
  • Gaining a positive psychology perspective on mindsets with regards to change, stuckness, limiting beliefs and potential.
  • Developing an awareness of resilience, mental toughness and post-traumatic growth and how these may be developed through coaching.
  • Understand the difference between positive outlook and explanatory style through understanding optimism from a positive psychological perspective.
  • Basic understanding of the human engagement & motivation through introduction of the concept of flow.
  • Having an overview of available positive psychology assessments, inventories & psychometrics.
  • Understanding the potential impact of positive psychology interventions that can be added to the coach’s toolbox.
  • An awareness of current and future developments of positive psychology as a field of applied science.

The overarching goal of this weekend is help coaches understand the main tenets of positive psychology without heavy name dropping or working through a battery of research studies and academic textbooks; but instead through experiencing some of its themes in the here and now, through practical examples from coaching relating theory to practice and by discussing our own experiences of these topics as a group, including some demos and space to practice. The end goal is to empower you, as well as your clients, to understand and apply some of the principles of positive psychology and as a result live more happy and meaningful lives.

Please contact the organiser if you wish to discuss alternative payment arrangements (e.g. deposit and later payment) and do not hesitate to reach out with any other questions you may have.

A few testimonials from past training events with Yannick:

Jodi Wedeen: “Yannick is such a passionate and intelligent person. I thoroughly enjoyed his coaching class because itopened my eyes and my thoughts. He gave us the open space to express ourselves and allowed us to ask difficult questions. He is a unique teacher and offers a lot knowledge and perspective. I HIGHLY recommend taking a class or experiencing a life coaching session with him. Thank you so much.”

Jo Waters: “The amount I felt I learned was huge. I am going away buzzing and excited!

John Gedge: “I really enjoyed Yannick’s delivery and his apparently effortless facilitation, which enabled us all to havesuch a rich learning experience. Yannick was hugely engaging, passionate and knowledgeable.”

James Ross-Smith: I was blown away by this course. Yannick was a great teacher, combining metaphor, case study and coaching as he was presenting the course. I learnt a lot more than I expected too and got some great personal shifts, massive changes to my coaching style and finally made the career change I had been putting off for 9 years. Money and time very well spent!

Asmara Goodwin: "I attended Yannick’s Positive Psychology weekend with Animas in September 2016.
Yannick’s teaching style is relaxed and interactive and he made the course so fun that it was only on reflection afterwards that I realized just how much I’d actually learnt.
Yannick is immeasurably knowledgeable in his subject and his enthusiasm is infectious. I have found that the concepts he introduced have been invaluable both in my own life and in my coaching – particularly the ideas about resilience which seem to be particularly pertinent when I am coaching my NHS colleagues!"
