Event Details

Join us for an inspiring and thought-provoking evening to explore exciting new discoveries from the science of happiness.

Leading experts Dr Itai Ivtzan and Dr Tim Lomas will share the latest findings from the new "second wave" of Positive Psychology research.

They will explain the unexpected benefits of embracing the darker side of life - and how we can learn to harness our difficult experiences and feelings to cope better and get more out of life.

Covering themes such as meaning, resilience, mortality, change, suffering and spirituality, Itai and Tim will show us how the challenging times in life can ultimately lead to us to greater growth, insight, healing and transformation.

About The Speakers

Dr Itai Ivtzan and Dr Tim Lomas are both psychologists and lecturers on the Masters in Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP) at University of East London (UEL). They have published a wide range of books and journal papers.

Dr Ivtzan's main areas of research are spirituality, mindfulness, meaning, and self-actualisation. Dr Lomas' areas of research interest include 'second wave' positive psychology, cross-cultural lexicography and mindfulness/Buddhism.

Their recent books include Second Wave Positive Psychology, The Positive Power of Negative Emotions and Awareness Is Freedom.

Location and Timings 

This event will take place at Conway Hall in central London on Wednesday 8 February 2017. Doors will open at 18:30 and the event will start at 19:00


This event is in support of Action for Happiness. We want to make it accessible to as many people as possible, so rather than charging a fixed fee we're instead asking you to make a donation. It would be great if you could donate £20, but if you can spare more, or feel unable to give that much, then please give what you feel is appropriate.

Any funds raised (beyond the costs of the event) will contribute directly to Action for Happiness' work to promote mental wellbeing in local communities. Action for Happiness is part of the Young Foundation, a Registered Charity (274345) in England and Wales.
