Demsoc Presents: Post-Referendum: Harnessing the Democratic Energy, Hemma, 3rd February, 7pm
Following the 84.5% turnout at the Referendum, surging interest in politics, and over 18,000 submissions to the Smith Commission, it’s clear that a new chapter in Scottish democracy is underway.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has discussed her desire to “find new ways to harness the democratic energy” and lead a Scottish Government that is “open and participative” and “full, active, genuine and constructive participants… in discussions across Scotland.”
The most recent Programme for Government has also noted the importance of Participatory Democracy and the need to "draw more people more deeply into the way that the decisions that matter to them are taken."
After the excitement and positive engagement of the referendum it is important to continue conversations about what the future of democracy in Scotland looks like and to discuss what needs to be done to create a New Scottish Democracy, with participation at its core.
Guest Speakers will include:
Linda Fabiani MSP, Member of the Smith Commission's Cross Party Committee
All are welcome to attend to take part in the discussion, to network and to enjoy complimentary refreshments.
Please register to confirm your interest in attending.
