Description

Our first speaker for the new ‘Postdocs’ Work and Family Life Series @ BmC’ will be Dr Burcu Babaoglan Fiehler, Senior Clinical Trials Coordinator at Cambridge Clinical Trials Unit (CCTU).

Burcu carried out her PhD studies at Washington University in St. Louis, USA, finishing in 2008. In 2009 she joined Sarah Bray’s lab as a postdoc in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience (PDN), University of Cambridge, to continue her work on Notch signalling. In 2013, she finished her postdoc and steered away from basic science towards clinical research to work on cancer trials at CCTU. Burcu and her husband Ryan (also a former postdoc at the University) had two children together while they were postdocs and Burcu took 6 months' maternity leave after the birth of each child.

Burcu will give a brief talk about how she and her husband, as a couple, manage to balance their academic life and family life, as well as their social and private life.

This will be followed by a Q&A session for you to raise any questions, and a chance to meet other postdocs and share your own experiences.

Lunch will be provided.

Organised by

The postdoc community in Cambridge numbers over 4,000 and is responsible for much of the research that underpins the University’s world-leading reputation. In recognition of the importance of postdocs, the University established the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPdA) in 2013 to look after the interests of the community. We have a base at 16 Mill Lane (The Postdoc Centre), Biomedical Campus and Eddington where you can come for information and advice.
