"Pens in One Hand, Trowels in the Other”

Interdisciplinary Studies with the Sixth Postgraduate Conference in Conflict Archaeology

This October, the University of Glasgow will play host to the Postgraduate Conference in Conflict Archaeology. Since 2011, this conference has brought together postgraduates and early career researchers from across the world to share their research and build their skills as part of a wider community dedicated to the study of past conflict. For 2019, the sixth conference will seek to expand this community through the theme of interdisciplinary studies.

Keynote speakers include:

  • Professor Tony Pollard

  • Allan Carswell

  • Dr. Jennifer Novotny & Dr. Natasha Ferguson

  • The War Through Other Stuff Society

and guest speakers:

  • Dr. Jo Ball

  • Dr. Ryan McNutt

  • Simon Verdegem

  • Dr. Ben Wheatley

The conference takes place over two days on the weekend of Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October 2019. Registration starts on both days at 9am with a finish time of 5pm. Light refreshments will be provided and delegates can register their interest for the Conference Dinner to take place on the Saturday evening, which can be paid for on the day.

More information and the full conference programme can be found on the Postgraduate Conflict Archaeology website.

For students seeking to attend the conference, the George Pope Memorial Award offers limited £100 bursaries to assist university students wishing to attend the conference to travel to Glasgow. Find out more and how to apply.

Hosted in partnership with the University of Glasgow Center for Battlefield Archaeology, the Scottish Centre for War Studies, the Hunterian Museum & Art Gallery and the University of Glasgow’s Archives & Special Collections.
