Postgraduate Research Supervisor Symposium 2021

Who can attend?

The Postgraduate Research Supervisor Symposium 2021 is open to all staff currently engaged in postgraduate research supervision at the University of Bristol, and to those who would like to supervise in the future.

About the symposium

It will be a space for postgraduate research supervisors to explore questions of progress and assessment in postgraduate research degree provision, and to identify further training or development needs.

The symposium includes a keynote presentation from Dr. Gill Houston which examines the role of supervisors in preparing candidates for assessment from both STEM and AHSS perspectives; and Faculty Breakout sessions with activities which offer an opportunity to explore understandings of PGR timelines, milestones and the opportunities and challenges of assessment in PGR education.

Where will it take place?

The symposium will will take place online via Blackboard Collaborate and will be hosted by colleagues from the Bristol Institute for Learning and Teaching (BILT), and School/Faculty PGR Directors.  We will be recording the symposium which will be made available for colleagues to view online after the event. 

Joining instructions

Once you have registered you will be manually enrolled onto the organisation, you will receive a welcome email once this has been completed with the following joining instructions.

• Under the “My Organisations” section of your Blackboard ‘Home’ page click on ‘Research Supervisor Development’
• In the Research Supervisor Development space click on ‘Symposium November 2021’ which you will find in the left-hand menu.
• On the ‘Symposium November 2021’ page you will find the ‘Join the symposium’ link at the bottom of the page which will take you to the Collaborate rooms.
