About this event

Postmodern Conversation Club is a surreal take on a classic conversation club concept. You'll meet a bunch of new people for a series of short one-on-one conversations... each of which is facilitated by a different quest.

Your quests may involve discussing a particular topic, creating a piece of art, attempting a mind-reading technique, communicating via a revamped piece of 1990s technology, or almost anything else.

The goal of Postmodern Conversation Club is to be fun... and also to encourage more interesting, varied, lively conversations that aren't just small talk.

This is the FIRST Postmodern Conversation Club event, and we encourage you to come along with an open mind... and then to come to the pub with us afterwards to discuss how it went.

This event is facilitated by the International Ghost Society - Edinburgh's most eclectic historical society. It'll take place in Throat Punch Coffee Company, where there'll be some drinks and light refreshments on offer.

Frequently asked questions

Should I come on my own or with friends?

Either. We expect that many people will come solo, but friends are very welcome - and the conversations should still be fun even with people you already know.

How exactly does it work?

You'll be paired up with a conversation partner, and can pick from a selection of topics/tasks/quests to explore. After around five to ten minutes you'll move onto another conversation partner and another quest. Over the course of the whole event you'll undertake around five or six quests in total.

What if I don't like a particular topic/quest?

You'll always have a selection to choose from, and you can skip a round at any time, or switch to a different activity at any time. There are no controversial topics or difficult activities.
