Event description
Learn about the life and work of Basil Spence, one of Scotland’s best-known modernist architects.

About this Event

Philip Long, Director of V&A Dundee and a biographer of Basil Spence (1907-76), joins Dovecot to explore the architect’s work, why his career flourished in the post-war period, and his commitment to collaborating with contemporary artists and designers, young and old.

As we celebrate and examine modernist design in our current exhibition, Mid-Century Modern: Art & Design from Conran to Quant, this is a chance to explore Spence’s special commitment to the wider art and design of his time, explored through his work on the Festival of Britain, Coventry Cathedral, and many other projects.

Philip Long OBE FRSE is Director of V&A Dundee, editor of The Story of Scottish Design (2018) and joint co-editor, with Jane Thomas, of the monograph Basil Spence Architect (2007).

Tickets £12 (+booking fee) includes entry to exhibition until 6pm on the day of the event.

Every ticket sold supports the work of The Dovecot Foundation to advance visual art, craft and design in all its forms.
