Event description
Bargain rescued books sold by Masked Booksellers to raise funds for local good causes. Eat cake while you browse. Family friendly.

About this Event

14th annual booksale in aid of three local charities:

http://www.hostnottingham.org.uk/ Host Nottingham connects homeless destitute asylum seekers and volunteer hosts.

https://werhere.org.uk/ We R Here offers support for families who are struggling: families that have experienced domestic abuse, bereavement or where there is conflict following a divorce. They offer support not only for parents, but also specialist support for children.

http://nottsclothnappies.com/ Helping families to use cloth nappies to save money and the environment.

Our rescued books include: new, genre, unusual, modern and classic fiction; every non-fiction subject under the sun, from art and aviation to zen and zoology; hardbacks and paperbacks; scarce/collectable/vintage books; lots of children’s books; and the odd really weird book that you wouldn’t believe could, or maybe should, exist. The book on Austrian Folk Costumes has been in our stock for over ten years, but you could make this its lucky year. There are also DVDs, CDs, cards and handmade bags.

We always have low prices (starting at 10p), to make books accessible to everyone. Even our collectable or scarce books usually have much lower prices than online.

Refreshments, including home-made cakes, will be available in our café, Josiah’s.

Children may ride the ExLibris Express (children's train in the back garden). The event is family-friendly.

People who arrive wearing a mask can claim a free raffle ticket.

Visitors are invited to bring a tin of vegetarian food, to be donated to Netherfield food bank. We will also collect good quality clean used clothing for Sharewear.

Dave Wood will be hosting a poetic afternoon in the back garden at 1pm on May 2nd. Come and be a reader or a listener.

Buses 24, 25, 44 (get off at the Co-op) or 26 (get off Ousebridge Drive). Bicycles can be stored in our back garden. There is plenty of onstreet parking (we hope people will try not to park right outside our direct neighbours for long), or a car park at the top of Ranmoor Road. We take cash only; there is a cashpoint at the Co-op at the top of the road. We are partly wheelchair accessible, and will help wherever possible. Nearby we also have a Castle Rock pub (food served), a wool shop, an art/frame shop and several other useful local shops and takeaways. A visit to the ExLibris Booksale could also be happily combined with a stroll in Gedling Country Park.

ExLibris is a member of the Federation of Masked Booksellers: Discarded books rescued and sold for charity.

Since we started doing this about 14 years ago, we've taken and given nearly £20,000 to various charities and good causes, mostly local. The 2019 ExLibris Masked Charity Booksale raised £3619, split between Sharewear, Zephyrs and Morton Hall Detainees’ Visitors' Group.

Proceeds to 3 local good causes: Host Nottingham (50%); We R Here (25%), Notts Cloth Nappies (25%).
