Description

We are very sorry to inform you that in response to concerns about the COVID-19 outbreak the team at Intelligence Squared has made the decision to postpone this event.

We are planning on rescheduling the event for later this year, and will notify ticket holders as soon as we have a new date.

Brexit divided not just the nation but Britain’s most famous political family, the Johnsons. While her brothers Boris and Jo were climbing the political ladder, Rachel Johnson was determined to avoid the family business and make her way as a journalist, novelist and broadcaster. But after the EU referendum in 2016, she felt compelled to defend the Remain cause. And when an insurgent anti-Brexit party burst onto the political scene in 2019, she decided to make a stand for what she believed in and run in the European Parliament elections – just at the time when Boris was making his final assault on Downing Street. As some joked, she went into politics to spend more time with her family.

What happened next is revealed in Rachel’s new book Rake’s Progress: My Life in Politics (in the Johnson family she is known as Rake). And on April 28 she comes to the Intelligence Squared stage to tell all, taking us behind the scenes to share gossipy anecdotes along with insights into the enormous pressures felt by our politicians. Taking on Ann Widdecombe and the Brexit Party, would she and her party make history – or become a forgotten footnote in the rolling omnishambles of British politics?

Joining Rachel will be her father, Stanley Johnson, former Conservative MEP, prolific author and reality TV star. Stanley has also been inspired to turn the Brexit psychodrama into a book, in his case a satirical and surprisingly prescient thriller called Kompromat.

Join us for a shrewd and entertaining analysis of the turmoil in British politics over the last three years.

Book Bundles

Book Bundles include one ticket plus one copy of Rachel Johnson’s forthcoming book Rake’s Progress: My Life in Politics, to be collected from the venue on the night of the event.
