Hamish Napier, the Strathspey born composer and folk multi-instrumentalist behind acclaimed albums The River and The Railway, premieres his third The Woods. Join him at the midpoint of his epic ten-year journey to create his Strathspey Pentology, five albums of original music inspired by his homeland, each representing the Classical elements water, fire, earth, wind and aether. The Woods is a beautiful folk tune cycle in praise of Cairngorms Connect, a partnership of neighbouring land managers, committed to a bold and ambitious 200-year vision to enhance habitats, species and ecological processes across a vast area within the Cairngorms National Park. The Woods explores the Scottish Gaelic tree alphabet and the inter-connected wildlife, legends and characters of our native wild forests. Joining him for this trio version of the line-up is Innes Watson (fiddle, viola) & Steven Byrnes (guitar).

The music of Hamish Napier is every bit as striking, profound and exhilarating as the epic landscapes that inspire him - it is the perfect soundtrack to the Scottish Highlands. The son of a Celtic harpist and composer, Napier is the real thing when it comes to born-and-raised Scottish music. This is innovative instrumental World Music at its very best. Hamish is one of the finest traditional flautists of his generation, with a rich, expressive tone and pioneering approach. He has worked with many of Scotland's leading artists: Duncan Chisholm, Julie Fowlis, Mike Vass, Lauren MacColl, Ross Ainslie, Jarlath Henderson, Donald Shaw, Karen Matheson and Eddi Reader.
