Presented by Robert George, DC

PRI concepts of lateralization and variability of the cervical spine, ribcage and pelvis
including integration of functional training for the interdisciplinary practice of the 21st Century

Innovation and integration will define chiropractic practice in the 21st century for those practitioners who want to grow professionally and stay relevant throughout their careers.   This course will introduce you to one of the most powerful tools available for assessment and treatment: PRI or the Postural Restoration Institute.   You will learn the basics of PRI objective testing and treatment that on Monday morning you can start to practice and implement including recognizing the necessity for integrating position and function of the diaphragm with spinal bio-mechanics driven by neurologic patterns.  In addition, a discussion on spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) and reducing or eliminating the risk of VBI or stroke will be presented with a PRI approach to cervical alignment and function.   The basics of functional training will also be introduced and practiced so bring comfortable workout clothes.  We will be moving and practicing in this weekend course!

Day 1

Hour 1-4: Introduction to the Postural Restoration Institute and the application with chiropractic.   An overview of PRI principles that define human asymmetries, the relationship between neurology, respiration and biomechanics will be described. In addition, examples of PRI testing and non-manual technique will be described and demonstrated.

Hour 5-8: Chiropractic manipulation and risk of stroke. The incidence of vertebral artery dissection as a result of chiropractic manipulation is extremely low.   90 % of cervical manipulation is performed by doctors of chiropractic and when stroke occurs, not only is it big news and catastrophic, but the information of a stroke performed by a chiropractor can be strongly biased and used to discredit the entire profession.   This segment will describe the PRI concept of neutrality as it relates to the cervical spine and how to provide balanced function to the neck without the risk of HVLA. Essentially, the risk of stroke and chiropractic could be eliminated with the use of PRI principles.   In addition, the causes of forward head posture and reversal of the cervical spine will be discussed.

Day 2

Hour 1: Survival of the Fittest: Chiropractic in the 21st Century and integrating rehabilitation and performance training.

Hour 2-8: Concepts and practice of functional training including integrating a hip/hinge to Romanian Dead Lift (RDL), Turkish Get Up (TGU), Chops and Lifts.   The concept of community wellness center, DC/PT collaboration and building a team of health and fitness professionals for outcome based care for patients and clients.
