Potions and Plants: A Magical Evening at The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh
Event Information
Description
Something magical is happening at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh …
Inspired by the Harry Potter: A History of Magic exhibition at the British Library this fun fancy dress (optional!) event will, we hope, leave you inspired by the magical world of plants.
For one night only, the Garden’s wizarding equivalent, Hogweed’s School of Botany & Magical Horticulture, will be visible to muddles (non-gardening folk). Join us for this once in a lifetime opportunity to peek behind the scenes at this mysterious organisation and find out more about the magical plants that it cultivates and how those plants can be used to create the magical potion known as gin.
Drinks on arrival will be followed by attendance at 4 magical lessons. Classes will include:
Potions - In this class you will learn how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. We’ll tell you how to bottle fame and brew glory as you join Professor Snipe (Edinburgh Gin) to explore the mystical process of gin distillation
Charms - Students attending Professor Flatwig’s class will learn about a range of charms. If you’re being bothered by witches, flustered by evil faeries or just unlucky in love then this is the class for you.
Herbology - If you’re worried by warts, bothered by boils or just searching for softer skin then join Professor Spouts (Catherine Conway-Payne) to explore the magical properties of plants.
History of Magic Plants - Join Professor Spins from the Hogweed’s Herbarium to find out more about the history of key magical plants
Transfiguration - Explore the world of miracle plants that can transform substances and even tastes with Professor William McGonagall
Alchemy - Join Professor Flamel to learn how to turn some boring liquids into some much more impressive, intriguing and beautiful substances; well behaved pupils might even get something to take home with them!
A small, select band of students with a particular aptitude for potions (i.e. VIP ticket-holders) will also have the opportunity to delve more deeply into the magical process of distillation, working with Edinburgh Gin to brew their own, uniquely flavoured gin to take home with them.
Fancy dress is recommended (but not required) - you wouldn't want to be taken for a muddle!
Given the nature of the event it is for Over 18's only.
Brought to you by the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, Edinburgh Gin, the Edinburgh Complex Fluids Partnership and Edinburgh Libraries.
