This four-week course introduces the materials required for making a glaze and how they are applied to fired clay.

About this event

Four-week Pottery Workshop.

This course will introduce you to the material required to make your own glazes. You will learn the difference between slips, glazes and engobes and how to apply them using brush on, dipping and pouring methods. Test pieces will be available; however you are more than welcome to bring your own bisque fired pieces to experiment on (please ensure this is made from stoneware clay, that you know the firing temperatures and that the piece is no higher than 12cm). Your items will be fired for you to take home.

The course is designed for students who have prior experience in pottery.

What will I Learn:

  • Create a glaze, slip and engobe from materials
  • Applying glazes
  • Decorating and experiment with glazes, engobes and slips

What to Bring

Suitable small items (no higher than 12cm) made from STONEWARE CLAY to experiment with (not essential as test tiles and pieces will be available) • Note pad and pen • Phone or camera to record results (optional)

Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty. It would be advisable to bring your own apron and towel may come in handy.
