Event description
Create your own hand-built pottery dish

About this Event

Learn how to make your own Agate style hand-built pottery bowl using coloured porcelain.

Agate ware was made in Staffordshire in the 17th and 18th centuries and the technique involved the incomplete mixing of usually two coloured clays, which were then put on the potter’s wheel to make a vessel.

In this fun and informative three hour workshop, you will adapt this technique, by mixing the coloured porcelain and then rolling out coils and forming these into a slab (similar to rolling out pastry) to then be shaped into a dish on a mould.

Different colours can be used and no dish will be the same, which is what makes hand building a pot in this way so very attractive.

The class will take place at Patrick Nash’s pottery studio at Wimbledon Art Studios and is suitable for both beginners and those with a little experience of ceramics.

All clay and tools will be provided and your pots will be fired and ready for collection 2-3 weeks after the workshop.

Group sizes are restricted to four people, ensuring lots of individual attention from Patrick.

Patrick Nash is an expert ceramicist and teacher, who has been practising the art of pottery making since the 1970s.

"Thanks to Handmade Workshops and Patrick Nash for another great class. Looking forward to seeing the finished results"
