Pottery Glaze Mixing for Beginners
Overview
Hello,
My name is Helen McCormick, and I'm a local ceramic artist and teacher with over 30 years of experience working with clay. I’m passionate about sharing my knowledge and love for ceramics through relaxed, creative workshops designed for beginners and enthusiasts alike.
In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of how to create a stoneware glaze from raw materials. I’ll guide you step by step through the glaze mixing process, helping you understand the essential ingredients and how they work together to form a finished glaze.
The session includes:
- A glaze-making booklet to take home
- Test tiles to apply your glaze on
- A respiratory dust mask for safety
All materials and equipment are provided. Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day — please bring a packed lunch and an apron (or wear old clothes).
This workshop is a great opportunity to gain confidence with glaze materials, meet like-minded people, and deepen your understanding of pottery in a friendly, supportive space.
There is FREE parking at The Walronds. The car park is located at the back of the building and can be accessed via Shortlands Lane (turn left just before the fire station on Tiverton Road). Here’s the link for directions: Google Maps – The Walronds
I look forward to welcoming you to the workshop and helping you discover the satisfaction of making your own pottery glaze!
