POWER OF THE PEN: Practical uses for creative writing

A writing retreat for women in the Highlands

• Have you ever had something to say but weren’t sure how to express yourself?

• Have you ever thought about writing a blog or a newspaper column and wondered how to go about it?

• Would you like to compose a witty letter or tweet of complaint with a sting in the tail?

• Or perhaps you have a swirl of ideas and opinions in your mind but you’re not sure how to articulate them?

Places are strictly limited and will be awarded through an application process. To register for this event DOES NOT guarantee you a place.

Participants will be expected to take part in the full programme of events, which will run from Friday early evening to Sunday lunchtime. The retreat will take place in Forse House, Caithness and weather permitting, will include some outdoor activity, so be sure to bring warm clothes and boots or wellies.

DATE: Fri 8 Dec to Sun 10 Dec 2017 (Fri early evening to Sun lunchtime)

COST & APPLYING: Places are free but strictly limited and awarded by an application process. The weekend is free to attend with meals, accommodation and workshops included.

VENUE: Forse House, Latheron, Caithness

ACCOMMODATION: Please note the accommodation will be Hostel style with shared rooms and bathroom facilities.

WEA Women in the Highlands

The WEA Women in the Highlands project works with women in the Highlands, supporting them by providing safe, non-judgemental environments where they can come together to learn, to give and receive support, and to discuss the issues important to them without fear of having their conversation shut down.

The WITH project is working towards three outcomes:

Project Outcome 1

Women in the Highlands will be encouraged and empowered to participate in and engage with services and civic society.

Project Outcome 2

Women expressing an interest in becoming leaders will be supported and have increased access to development opportunities.

Project Outcome 3

Four self-governing and sustainable women’s groups will be established in the Highlands.

WEA WITH will contribute to the following Scottish Government National Equality Outcome: Women’s position in the economy and in employment is improved in the long term, and to Outcome 2 of the Women's Equality Steering Group framework:

Greater understanding within the group and other stakeholders of the challenges faced by women and women’s organisations, and of the diverse nature of women’s lived experiences in Scotland.

Our workshops and events are free to attend.
